#MondayTrainingUpdate

Last week… I purchased my plane ticket to
phoenix for the day before my race. Ill be spending most my time and running the race with my girl friend Cassie… She is a huge support in all my running adventures! I hit every single run for the week except the long run I made only 4 out of the 13 but at least I made it 6 days of running!
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday was a cross-country camp put on by the school, I coach with. We had a great turn out. The head coach and I had the opportunity to teach how to run good form. This upcoming season is starting today! The whole coaching staff is expecting great things. I am looking forward to running with the runners of the team and my hope is to teach them what it means to run and run well, but also to use them as motivation for my goal race.
Injured! The bottom of my left foot has had some pain. I have been trying to work through it but today I might have set it back while playing badminton. I really am going to keep pushing through it, I feel like my body can fix itself while I’m training. Whether that means taking it easier on hard days, shortening miles, maybe even a extra rest day. Right now I have been trigger pointing and icing here and there to keep the pain at a minimum.

Always running for Him,
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

#MondayTrainingupdate 7/3/2012

Monday/ Tuesday training update
Last week I botched the training plan! At the church(Foothills Christian Church) I attended a yearly youth conference called Future Quest. I have been going to this conference for 13 years! The last five years I have been a volunteer. This conference is from noon to ten from Wednesday thru Friday, as a volunteer I helped Tuesday thru Saturday as part of the set up and tear down crew. Needless to say I felt that future quest was more important than running last week. Working future quest was well worth it, not only were teenagers lives change by the power of God, but God also used me to play a role in this MOVEMENT!
Total mileage for the week was 9 miles… I was able to squeeze in a one-mile run on Wednesday, I had a race on Friday, and then a team group run on Saturday. The race one Friday was the MCRD Freedom Run. I ran with race with a few friends and another member of the team. I ran with Juan, Andrew, and Joseph(@jabridgeforth). The most exciting part of the whole race was that I set a PR of 23:52 which means I shaved three minutes of my 5k PR in just two months! However, my brother @jabridgeforth also set a PR, he was in the upper 18 minutes. This I can credit to my increased millage, speed work, and the joy that was set before me. The MCRD Freedom run was free for both my brother and I because my dad is retired military. But it cost civilians only $10… That’s So cheap for a well put together race! You get a t-shirt, free food (this year it was Jersey mikes), a beer, Red Bull, Five hour energy, Monster, Water, Tons of booths, plus a Free raffle! One of the things Juan and I did was the watermelon-eating contest! Sadly we were untrained and inexperienced so we fell to the champion.
This weeks training
Monday was supposed to be an 11mi long run but I was sick and sore from all the lifting for set up and tear down, I decided it would be in my best interest to take a extra rest day. Tuesday is a 6mi easy run with 6 x 150m repeats. Wednesday is a 2mi warm up + 5mi tempo run then a 1mi cool down, Thursday is a easy 6mi run with 6 X 150m repeats, Friday is 7 miles, Saturday is a 2mi warm up + 4mi tempo run with a 1mi cool down. Sunday is my day of rest! I have also included push-ups and sit ups and pull ups with squats.
I will be posting more this week because I am trying to keep my blogs on the shorter side! So stay tuned to see what else I have been up too!
Always running for Him,
K.E. Bridgeforth
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawn.”

Monday Training Update 6/25/2012

Monday Training Update
Last week I finished with a total of 46 miles. This is the most miles I have done in a week since my marathon training in late November. I finished the week with the Low Tide Ride and stride. This race is an 8.2-mile run from Imperial Beach to Coronado. I did not meet my goal of 1:10:00 but I did PR with a time of 1:12:24. I ran in my Vivobarefoot Evo II, these shoes are one of my favorite racers/training shoes. Three out of the five #teamIAM crew was there. Last year all five of us ran it! Joseph(@jabridgeforth) broke his PR along with Quentin. Both of them were running in the NB minimus road. Overall the race was really fun, I personally had a blast, and this is one race I will be looking forward to next year!
Train for this week will have a max mileage of 30. Monday I am taking off because of the race the day before. Tuesday is a 3mi run, Wednesday is 5mi at a easy pace, Thursday is the speed day with a 2mi warm up 3mi tempo run 1mi cool down. For the weekend Friday will be another 3mi run, Saturday will be a 6mi day at easy pace, on Sunday I will finish with a 7mi long run. The day I am looking forward to most is Friday. This is because a few of the runner from the cross-country team along with the coaches will be participating in a 5k race for the military. The race is called the MCRD Freedom run; I ran in it last year and am looking for a 5k PR this year! I am trying to run at an 8 min pace… so my goal for the race is a 22 min finish!
After this race I’m going to try and focus strictly on training with no races in the month of July, unless someone springs something upon me. I really need to bear down and get ready to coach this fall.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Monday Training Update

Monday Training Update
This week I will be hitting 40 miles of running. Monday is my distance day of 10 miles, trying to run that at a 11min mile. Tuesday will be a easy run of 4.5 mi with 150m strides. Wednesday will be a 7mi run at a 10mi pace. Thursday will be on the trails and it will be a 2mi warm up with a 4mi tempo run, and then a 1mi cool down. Friday will then be a 5mi run with 150m strides. Saturday I will have off because I am doing a race on Sunday which is 8.2 miles. This week I’m focusing on completing every run. One of my goals for race day is to beat my PR from last year, which was just under 1:20:00. This year I would like to finish under 1:10:00. I have been debating adding push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and pull-ups into my daily exercises.
New this week I am going to become a vegetarian/vegan. I don’t know how long this I going to last. My brother recommended it, he said it is great for endurance runners.
I have also been reading a few books. I am currently reading, How to Read a Book, 365 Day Challenge, Love Your Enemies, Touch point for leaders, and the Bible. I have been using Touch point for leader in close relation with the Bible to help me understand it more.
Contest winning! I recently won a Free tech Tee from Altra, I am excited to be getting it in the mail very soon. They posted a picture of two shoe outsoles and if you were the first to name both you got a free tech tee, needless to say I was the quickest on the trigger! I am looking forward to buying a pair of their Samson’s.

All for You,
K.E. Bridgeforth

5k Sunday, Sara Hall Monday

5k Sunday, Sara Hall Monday
For the last few weeks I was training for a 5k. By this I mean I wanted to reduce my 5k time. I have ran many 5ks, 10ks, and attempted a marathon. So the distance of the 5k is no struggle for me. In high school I ran cross-country my senior year. My 5k times then floated around a 32 min race. My goal when I started running again was to complete a 5k without walking. So on my journey of running post high school began with this goal in mind. I started out just running here and there. I started to get serious when I started a run/walk program for a 5k. I hit this program head on for about 4-6 weeks. About two weeks after I stopped training I ran a 5k and completed my goal. I set a 5k pr of 30 min, without walking. At this point I took a long break because I was playing collegiate lacrosse. However that same semester I quit lacrosse not because my love for the game, but the coaches and me weren’t seeing eye-to-eye on a lot of issues. Leaving the game of lacrosse felt like a divorce, I loved the game but things were certainly hard. I also felt life was calling me to move onto my other dreams. For the next few months I was in rebellion toward anything requiring physical activity. When I quit I was weighing about 215 and my goal weight is still 200. However, during this four-month rebellion my weight increased to 230 lbs. Reality hit after looking in the mirror. That summer began running and running a lot. I have four brothers all of us runners, two of them the high school cross-country team, another that graduated that semester from college and the other graduated from high school. My first run was a 6mi run with Alex. This was the third hardest run I have ever done. This 6mi run took about 1hr and 30min, which is about a 13-14 min mile. Now I run a 10k in 58min, this is not even a year after my first 10k. I will go into more detail on my three hardest runs in another blog.
That summer all of us brothers completed a lot of running. Then the school year came around and my running circle had diminished and so did my drive to run. In order to get back into the flow of things again, my school had a 10k and I signed up for that and started training. I was training for about 2 weeks, after my second week I got a call from Alex asking if I wanted to do a marathon. Of course my response was yes but you’re an idiot for making me do this. The marathon was the day after Christmas, the Operation Jack Marathon. At this point he contacted my three other brothers and I assume they all had the same response. My parents told us to only do a half, but us Bridgeforth’s are hard headed and our mind was set on the marathon. My training changed from 6.2mi race to a 26.2mi race. My goal was to complete the MARATHON. The training started our excellent, however four weeks before the marathon I thought it would be a great idea to take a break, for the next four weeks I rand very very little. A week before the marathon my school went on Christmas break, I was at home and my brothers and me ran about 10mi that week. The marathon came and I ran 22 out of the 26.2 mi. I missed it. I missed it by only 4miles, I was disappointed in myself, more disappointed in my lack of training. After about a week of recovery and a week of light running I ran another 5k race. My time was 28:30. I decided that from now on that I am going train and complete my training for everything I set my mind to.
Upon returning to school I found a 5k that would help me secede in decreasing my 5k time. I was doing that plan for about 3 weeks but then I hit a bump, my running stopped due to lack of motivation and I was getting burnt out. Over this break I did a lot of thinking. I wanted to continue on this plan, and also continue to lift weights. My daily workout with running and lifting was about 2hrs, which was getting too much for me. So for the next two weeks I found and decided I would do CFE and the running plan as well as pushups on my off days of CFE. To begin this new start I decided to run a 5k race, which was this last Sunday. I was getting good turn over for about the first leg of the race, on the second leg of the race, my pace slowed down. I believed I finished in like 27:30 that is just a estimate, I wasn’t wearing a watch, I couldn’t find it the night before, and they race clock had my time wrong.
The highlight of my week was meeting Sara Hall! She was in town, at first I really didn’t want to go but I felt I was supposed to go. So I went with my roommate Derek. We all chatted for about like 10-15 min told her about my brothers, my goals, joked around a little bit. The thing that struck me the most was when she gave me her signature she also put John 10:10 on it. What does this verse say? I thought. John 10:10 says “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” This was the message I needed to here that day! You see I was at a point in my life were my I was stolen from and felt destroyed. This verse caused me to remember that in order to have life, I need to place it in him, Jesus. In order to achieve my goals as a runner, as a person, as a writer, as a student, I need to place God as the head and my plans second. So now when I run my primary goal is to, as it says in Luke 10:27 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” What does this mean? I wish I had all the answers, I have an idea of what love is, but to love God with everything? I am still learning. This is my focus now I will work through what it means to love God. My second goal will be to love people as I love myself. Next week I hope to have more definitional meanings of what it to love God and others.
My prayer is that I would be able to live this verse out in my life and that other people would live this verse out as well, that us Christians would be a light to the broken, but first would be able to love God with everything. I pray that You would help me be a light when there is a need. I pray that it would be Your will and not mine and that through me I would be able to reach whomever and whoever. Whatever is the call, I pray I will be ready.
            Thank for everything!
Your runner, Keith Bridgeforth

P.S. Tomorrow I will not be posting neither will I post on sundays.
